About Ray Clarke
After initially working for a large driving school since 1995, Ray soon realised a need for a dedicated inner-city driving instructor, hence he decided to start Civic Driving School (Civic meaning “of the city”) in May 1997.
Ray has lived in Highgate for 30 years and knows the inner-city and surrounding suburbs well. This is where special skills are needed in particular, parking, merging, entering/exiting freeways etc and practising common courtesy on often busy streets.
After having taught many thousands of happy students since 1996, Ray has a wealth of knowledge in this field and he always takes pleasure in training his students from all backgrounds and age groups. Ray teaches in a patient manner and you’ll obtain skills including respect and courtesy on the road, to serve you well throughout your driving career.
Ray's greatest pleasure in this industry is sharing the joy with his students, on the day they pass their test.
Lessons

Learning to drive can be very stressful so it's important to start off on the right foot. We offer an extended first lesson to ensure you feel comfortable behind the wheel.
Your first lesson will be 60 minutes, charged at the price of $80. Ray to assess your driving skills so a personalised lesson plan can be created based on your abilities, as well as give you a chance to ask Ray any questions you may have and get used to the vehincle.

There are many different aspects to driving, and when you begin to learn there is a lot of information to process.
Ray will guide you through all the fundamentals of driving to ensure you develop good driving habits that you can use and rely on for the rest of your life.
Lessons will progress based on your personal ability, and will begin with the basics, such as vehicle operation, steering, clutch control and hill starts for manual learns.
As you advance lessons will cover road rules, hazard recognition, parking, slow manoeuvre exercises, driving in heavy traffic and vehicle maintenance.
When you and Ray feel you are ready for a practical test, you will have the opportunity to run through a mock test including paperwork and official scoring system.
